General Description

This publication presents descriptions of the geology of about 488 square miles of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Of the study area, about 428 square miles are located in Sebastian, Crawford, and Franklin Counties, Arkansas. Special emphasis is placed on the mineral resources of the area, including coal, natural gas, building stone, crushed stone, sand and gravel, and clay.

It includes:

  • Detailed lithologic descriptions of the formations of the study area
  • Stratigraphic chart of the formations
  • Correlation of rocks between the Everton and Boone Formations
  • 9 isopach maps of subsurface formations and groups
  • Division chart of the Atoka Formation in the study area
  • 16 isopach maps of gas-bearing sand units
  • Table displaying coal reserves in the study area, by known coal bed
  • Location map of wells drilled in the study area as of Sept. 30, 1966
