Title | Arkansas Lignite Investigations: Preliminary Report |
Author (s) | B.F. Clardy |
Date | 1978 |
General Description |
This preliminary report presents the results of 3 years of drilling and core sampling of lignite. Lignite was encountered within 150 feet of the surface on and adjacent to Crowley's Ridge in northeast Arkansas and in south Arkansas. Drill hole data include hole elevation, hole location, county, month and year drilled, logger's name, lithologic drill log. Appendix A covers northeast Arkansas data. In northeast Arkansas, 116 total holes were drilled in Clay, Craighead, Cross, Greene, and Poinsett Counties. A set of county-based highway maps show both the location of drill holes and amount of lignite encountered. Drill hole reference numbers allow the user to look up the lithologic description of any hole in the consecutively numbered stratigraphic drill hole logs presented. Appendix B covers south Arkansas data. In south Arkansas, 624 total holes were drilled in Bradley, Clark, Calhoun, Columbia, Dallas, Cleveland, Drew, Grant, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Lafayette, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Saline, and Union Counties. A set of county-based highway maps show both the location of drill holes and amount of lignite encountered. Drill hole reference numbers allow the user to look up the lithologic description of any hole in the consecutively numbered stratigraphic drill hole logs presented. Appendix C presents in a table form analytical data concerning lignite, including standard proximate and ultimate analyses, Btu/lb., Fusibility of ash, and location of sample including drill hole reference number, USBM analysis number, and GLO location (legal description). *Includes: 133 pages, 1 figure, 21 maps, 302 logs, 1 table |
